Keeping your DPF filter clean should be part of any maintenance program for an owner-operator or fleet manager. Today almost all commercial trucks that run on Diesel have a DPF filter, A diesel particulate filter is a device designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine.
What can you do to clean your own filter?
- Baking: consist of a specialized oven that uses heat to burn the soot out of the filter. This is the most common method. The Bake prosedure will: Bake/cool DPF for 8-12 hours at temperatures ranging: 100-300 C (212-572 F) coolant, water, oil, fuel starts to evaporate; 600-650 C (1100-1200 F) soot oxidizes.
- Blast Cabinet: Uses compressed air and vacuum to deep clean.
- Do It Yourself (DIY) – Water: Pressure washing a DPF Filter. Use hot water and spray evenly. This is the cheapest solution. This is the most cost effective method for most owner operaters wanting a “Do it yourself” (“DIY“)
