Trucking News » Trucking Association expects truck driver shortage heading into the holiday shopping season

APITAL REGION (WRGB) — The president of the Trucking Association of NYS says there is a staffing crisis, so companies are eager to hire, especially as the holiday shopping rush is just around the corner.

The Trucking Association’s president, Kendra Hems, says that companies are starting earlier than usual to get new hires. UPS says that they’re trying to hire 885 seasonal employees including drivers and package handlers in the Albany area to support the anticipated annual increase in package volume this holiday season. They’re offering higher pay than usual to attract people to come work for them. UPS is also looking to hire more people than before. Hems says trucking companies are offering sign on bonuses to get people.
