The All-electric Detroit ePowertrain for Freightliner

Freightliner will have an All electric Semi truck powered by Detroit ePowertrain

  • In a motor vehicle, the powertrain consists of the source of propulsion and the drivetrain system which transfers this energy into the forwarding movement of the vehicle

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) announced the new ePowertrain in order to stay relevant in future electric semi-trucks; DTNA also announced plans to invest $20 million in a manufacturing facility that would produce the new all electric ePowertrain.

Designed for the Freightliner eM2 and eCascadia, the all-electric Detroit® ePowertrain provides the ultimate in power, efficiency and sustainability.

Electric semis are expected to be the future of the trucking industry, Electric semis will have lower global warming emissions than vehicles powered by fossil fuels.

The Electric Semis are also expected to create a whole new workforce, one that will be required to work with high tech electric systems. It’s still unclear if manufactures will allow fleet owners to work on their own trucks as they do now, or be forced to bring the semi to an authorized dealer to have work done on it.

  • One of those electric vehicle manufacturers that don’t let you work on your own car is Currently Tesla.
